Ascension Sacred Heart Cancer Center: Here for Every Woman

Posted: Apr 09, 2026

Too many women delay or skip their annual mammogram not because they do not understand its importance, but because of real barriers like cost, access to care, or competing priorities. A 2024 Deloitte survey found that more than one third of women are behind on essential health appointments, including mammograms, reminding us how real and persistent these challenges are.

The stakes are high. One in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. When screenings are delayed, cancers are more often detected at later stages, when treatment is more complex and outcomes are less certain.

For women over 40, an annual mammogram is one of the most powerful tools for early detection. These screenings can identify breast cancer before symptoms appear, sometimes when it is as small as a mustard seed, when it is most treatable and survival rates are highest. Yet for uninsured women, the cost of a screening, often around $450, can be enough to postpone care.

Because of you, that moment of hesitation is becoming a moment of action.

One local woman nearly skipped her routine mammogram, thinking she could not fit it into her day. She went anyway. That decision saved her life.
