A Legacy of Leadership, A Future of Learning

Joseph F. Chapman, III believed deeply in the potential of Bay County and in ensuring the people who called it home had access to exceptional healthcare within their own community.

A successful businessman, civic leader, and humanitarian, Joe invested more than resources in the place he called home. He gave his time, leadership, and vision to causes he believed could strengthen Bay County for generations to come. Healthcare was among those priorities.

Joe served on the hospital’s Board of Trustees from 1977 to 1989, including nearly a decade as Chairman from 1980 to 1989. He returned to the Board in 1991 and continued serving until 1999. Throughout those years, he advocated for investments in advanced technology, exceptional medical professionals, and programs that would help Sacred Heart Bay meet the evolving needs of the community.

His leadership was particularly instrumental in establishing Sacred Heart Bay’s heart program more than 40 years ago. At the time, it was an investment in what healthcare in Bay County could become. Today, the program continues to serve patients and families—a lasting example of how Joe’s vision extended well beyond his own lifetime.

Joe understood that access to high-quality healthcare was essential to a strong and thriving community. He also recognized that providing exceptional care required more than buildings and technology. It required talented physicians, nurses, and caregivers with the knowledge and resources to continually advance the care they provide.

Through the Joseph F. Chapman, III Education Center, his legacy of leadership, generosity and unwavering belief in Bay County will continue to strengthen healthcare and touch the lives of patients and families for generations to come.

The newly dedicated space at Ascension Sacred Heart Bay will provide a place for physicians, nurses, clinicians and other associates to learn, collaborate and exchange ideas. It will allow Grand Rounds to return to the hospital while creating opportunities for educational seminars, lectures, clinical discussions, and professional development to strengthen patient care.
