Lacrosse Player’s Remarkable Comeback After Traumatic Brain Injury

At just 16, Max Krohn’s life changed dramatically after a 30-foot fall from a roof during a family vacation in South Walton County. The accident left him with a traumatic brain injury, and he was rushed to Ascension Sacred Heart Bay’s Level II Trauma Center. There, a compassionate team led by Dr. Blerina Begolli fought tirelessly to stabilize him, relieving pressure in his skull and supporting his fragile recovery.

For Max and his family, faith was a guiding light through the uncertainty. His lacrosse helmet bore the scripture Isaiah 40:31, a verse that gave them strength during the darkest days. After eight days in intensive care, Max awoke and wrote “I’m ok” on a whiteboard—simple words that meant the world to his parents and medical team.

Today, Max shows no lasting effects from his injury and is thriving as a high school junior with dreams of playing college lacrosse. His family credits the expert care, their faith, and Max’s incredible resilience for this miracle. “We are so proud of Max’s strength and determination,” his mother says, “and forever thankful for the team that saved him.”
